Invitational Roundtable Recap

Each year the IRF Invitational offers educational roundtable sessions that highlight organizational research and focus on industry insights, trends and the business of incentives. This year’s roundtables at The Broadmoor in Colorado Springs were the most heavily attended in Invitational history, covering actionable research that makes the business case for properly designed incentives.

On Thursday, IRF Research Director Rodger Stotz presented new research using a business case study, The Anatomy of a Successful Incentive Travel Program, to demonstrate the end-to-end economic impact of all the stakeholders of travel incentives – from sponsors to winners to the final destination. Dahlton Bennington, Director of Business Meeting Services for Spherion, the company profiled in the ‘Anatomy’ Study, offered some insights into management’s reaction to the study, the benefits the company has seen, and how they’re using the conclusions and recommendations to reinforce Spherion’s commitment to incentives and events.

Attendees were also provided tools to offer input and identify further areas of exploration through interactive digital-polling on a number of trends currently affecting the industry.

Friday’s roundtable, The Incentive Toolbox: Updating for the ‘New Normal,’ focused on the current incentive program structure, planning, evaluation and other tools to manage in today’s tighter economy. Historic and emerging trends were discussed and evaluated based on feedback from end-users, buyers and suppliers.

Groups discussed preliminary Pulse Survey results gathered the day before and brainstormed ways to deal with some of the current issues impacting incentive budgets, program design, and the image of incentives & meeting in the mainstream media.
